Spaces (2009)

Spaces is an interactive musical environment for CalArts' multi-touch table. It was developed in 2009 for a performance the REDCAT theater located in the Walt Disney Concert Hall in downtown LA. I wrote the visual front-end and experimented with interaction design while co-collaborators Owen Vallis and Jordan Hochenbaum worked on the audio components.

Spaces was designed to be an exploratory musical environment with a minimal interface. Likewise, the sound produced can be described as a minimalistic ambient soundscape. One of the most interesting attributes of the installation is that new users can work together to spontaneously improvise music with no prior knowledge of the system.
