Spaces (2009)

Spaces is an interactive musical environment for CalArts' multi-touch table. It was developed in 2009 for a performance the REDCAT theater located in the Walt Disney Concert Hall in downtown LA. I wrote the visual front-end while Owen Vallis and Jordan Hochenbaum worked on the sound design. Spaces was designed to be an exploratory musical environment with a very minimal interface. Likewise, the sound produced can be described as an ambient soundscape. Although created with a performance in mind, Spaces most interesting attribute is that anyone, even a group of strangers, can work together to spontaneously improvise music with almost no learning curve.

Spaces was written in Processing and uses Native Instrument's Reaktor for synthesis and sample playback. The two communicate over OSC.
